If you love wearing sarees, it is impossible not to have Kanjeevaram, Banarasi, silk, and heavily embroidered sarees in your wardrobe. However, there is no doubt that these sarees require special care and maintenance, especially when it comes to washing or cleaning them.

While we often think of dry cleaning for such sarees, let us show you how to keep expensive, heavy sarees clean at home without it.
**Using a Mild Detergent**
Regular laundry detergents can be too harsh for expensive silk or Banarasi sarees. Instead, you can use a mild detergent at home. Opt for baby shampoo or a specialized cleaner designed for delicate fabrics. Dissolve it in water, soak the saree for about 5 minutes, and then rinse it thoroughly in plain water.
**Lemon Remedy for Stains**
If there are stains on these sarees, they can be removed using simple home remedies. Apply a few drops of lemon juice to the stain. After 2–3 minutes, rinse the area with cold water. Before applying lemon juice to the stain, perform a patch test on a small, inconspicuous corner of the saree; if the fabric bleeds color or shows any adverse reaction, avoid using it.
**Avoid Scrubbing**
You should strictly avoid scrubbing or using a brush when washing Kanjeevaram, Banarasi, silk, or heavily embroidered sarees. If there is a stain, rub it very gently so as not to compromise the quality of the fabric. Additionally, avoid wringing the sarees out to remove excess water.
**The Right Way to Dry**
Fabrics have a lifespan; washing and drying them correctly can prevent premature damage and keep them in good condition for longer. Heavy silk or Banarasi sarees should never be dried in direct sunlight, as there is a risk of the color fading.

Also, whenever you hang them out to air, ensure they are turned inside out.
The drying area should be open and flat so that the threads of the saree do not get stretched.
