The practice of celebrating Father’s Day on August 8th in China first began in Shanghai in 1945. There was an interesting reason for this: in the Chinese language, the number 'eight' (8) is pronounced 'ba', and repeating it (8/8) creates a sound resembling 'Baba', which means 'father'. Consequently, an attempt was made to celebrate Father’s Day in China on August 8th.
