Google releases Android 17 Beta 2 update, with new features and safety measures in place..

Google has released Android 17 beta 2. The company previously released Android 17 beta 1 about two weeks ago. The new update has significantly changed the company's focus. In this update, the company has focused on a new API system, cross-device capabilities, and connectivity.

Android 17 beta 2 update: What's new?
Bubbles: Android 17 beta 2 introduces the Bubbles feature. This feature will offer users a floating window interface on phones, tablets, and foldable phones. Users will be able to create a bubble by long-pressing any app.

On larger screens of tabs or foldable phones, a bubble bar will appear in the taskbar, allowing users to manage bubble apps. Developers must follow multi-window guidelines to ensure smooth app performance.

EyeDropper API: This feature allows users to select a color from a single pixel of the content displayed on the screen.

Contacts Picker: This feature will work across personal and work profiles and give users temporary and session-based access. This will be based on the READ_CONTACTS permission.

Cross-Device and Connectivity Features: Android 17 will support the Cross-Device Handoff API. Users will be able to complete tasks from one app on another device, such as a tablet. CompanionDeviceManager allows users to use app-to-app and app-to-web transitions.

Ultra-Wideband DL-TDOA is supported, providing privacy-focused indoor navigation support based on FiRa 4.0. Streaming apps will gain access to carrier-allocated bandwidth limits, allowing them to optimize quality.

OTP Protection: Google has also focused on improving OTP protection in Android 17. Under the new change, OTPs will be delayed for up to 3 hours for apps that are not message recipients. This will apply to WebOTP messages, SMS Retriever format messages, and Standard OTP SMS messages.

Pixel users enrolled in the Android Beta program can install it via an OTA update. Non-Pixel devices can install it via the 64-bit emulator Android Studio. Google is working to deliver the final SDK and NDK APIs by March.
