Main Causes of Urine Leakage
Diksha Sharma explains that the biggest reason for urine leakage is the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support the bladder. When they weaken, pressure increases when coughing or sneezing, and urine can leak out. Besides this, some other reasons can also be responsible, such as:
It is common during pregnancy and delivery.
Hormonal changes, especially after menopause.
Frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs), and
An overactive bladder can also cause this.
How to overcome this problem?
Diksha Sharma says that if you dedicate just 10 minutes to yoga every day, the pelvic floor muscles can be strengthened. This provides better support to the bladder, and the problem of urine leakage gradually decreases.
What to do?
For this, the yoga trainer recommends performing Utkatasana (Chair Pose). Utkatasana is an easy but effective yoga pose. It strengthens the thighs, hips, and especially the pelvic floor muscles. Performing this pose improves blood circulation in the lower body and helps with bladder control.
The correct way to do Utkatasana
Stand straight with a slight gap between your feet. Inhale and raise both hands overhead.
Now, exhale and bend your knees as if you are sitting on a chair.
Keep your back straight during this pose.
Hold this position for 20–30 seconds.
Slowly inhale and return to a standing position.
Repeat this 9-10 times. With daily practice, you will start to see a difference in a few weeks.
Keep these points in mind:
Do not hold the pose for too long initially.
If you have knee or back pain, consult a doctor or yoga expert first.
Along with yoga, drink plenty of water and get timely treatment for UTIs.
