Today is International Women's Day. This day is celebrated to focus on issues such as gender equality, women's rights, and violence and abuse against women. Along with all this, it becomes very important to pay attention to women's health. Women are at a higher risk of many types of diseases, nutritional deficiencies, and health complications than men.

Women are especially vulnerable to certain diseases due to their routine, hormonal changes, and body structure. It becomes very important to know about these gender-based problems and take preventive measures from an early age.
Anemia is a common problem in India, especially in women of reproductive age. Anemia increases the risk of many types of health problems. This is why all women need to know about it from an early age and start taking preventive measures.
57% of women at risk of anemia
According to the National Family Health Survey 5 (NFHS-5), 57% of women aged 15-49 years in India are at risk of anemia. Anemia is more common in women than in men. This problem is seen more in rural and uneducated women. Iron deficiency during menstruation and pregnancy, and inadequate nutrition are the main reasons for this.
Anemia occurs when the level of hemoglobin in the body falls below normal. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells and helps deliver oxygen to the body. Iron deficiency is the biggest cause of anemia in women.
Anemia can cause serious problems.
Health experts say that the risk of anemia also increases significantly due to a lack of folic acid and vitamin B12.
Apart from this, during pregnancy, the woman's body needs more nutrients for the development of the baby. If iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12 are not met during this time, anemia can occur. The condition of anemia can increase problems like decreased fertility, premature delivery in pregnancy, low weight of the newborn, and hindrance in mental and physical development.
What to do to prevent anemia?
To prevent anemia, it is necessary to improve the diet from an early age. For this, consume a balanced diet.
Eat iron-rich things like green leafy vegetables (spinach, fenugreek), beetroot, pomegranate.
Consume protein-rich food like pulses, soy, milk, and eggs.
For folic acid and vitamin B12, you can include green vegetables, pulses, meat, and milk in the diet.
Include vitamin-C-rich things like lemon, orange, and amla in the diet. Vitamin C helps in the absorption of iron.

Women are also at risk of these diseases.
Cases of breast cancer are increasing rapidly all over the world. This is the most common cancer in women. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year about 20 lakh women are found to be victims of breast cancer.
Apart from this, the problem of arthritis in women is also seen more after menopause. After menopause, the level of estrogen hormone starts decreasing and its deficiency can seriously affect the health of bones. Click here to know which other diseases women are at risk of.
