Are Banks Closed Today? Bank employees across the country went on strike on Friday, September 11, to press for their demands. If you are planning to visit a bank branch today, Saturday, September 12, to get some work done, you should first check whether banks are open or closed.

September 12 marks the second Saturday of the month. Under Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, all bank branches remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Since today is the second Saturday, banks across India are closed.
Are banks closed in your city too?
Yes, bank branches will remain closed today in every city, including Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Patna, Bhopal, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The second Saturday holiday is not limited to a specific state or city but applies to bank branches nationwide. This is because, according to RBI regulations, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks are mandatorily closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, in addition to Sundays.
In India, banks provide customer services on the first, third, and fifth (if applicable) Saturdays of the month. However, this is subject to specific holidays or closures. Therefore, customers should be aware that banks remain open on these Saturdays, provided there is no scheduled holiday on that day.
This means that tasks requiring a visit to the bank—such as cash deposits, cheque-related work, account services, or other branch-based activities—cannot be performed today. However, digital banking services such as online banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs remain available as usual.
Following September 12, September 13 is a Sunday. Consequently, there will be no operations at bank branches for two consecutive days. If you have urgent banking work that requires a branch visit, you will have to wait for the next working day.
Digital banking will be available.
Banking transactions are not possible on specific holidays, and physical banking services are not provided. Nevertheless, customers can use internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking for both financial and non-financial tasks.
