The Jaya Ekadashi fast is observed on the Ekadashi (eleventh) day of the bright half of the month of Magha. This year, this fast will be observed on January 29th (Jaya Ekadashi 2026 Date). This day is considered auspicious for receiving the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. According to religious beliefs, observing this fast and performing rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu on this day frees the devotee from all sins and bestows upon them the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

On Ekadashi, Goddess Tulsi observes a waterless fast. Therefore, the rules related to Tulsi should be strictly followed on Ekadashi. It is believed that making mistakes related to Tulsi on Jaya Ekadashi can anger Goddess Lakshmi and lead to various problems in life. So, let's learn what precautions should be taken regarding Tulsi on Jaya Ekadashi.
Do not pluck Tulsi leaves.
According to Sanatan scriptures, one should never pluck Tulsi leaves on Ekadashi. It is believed that making this mistake can anger Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. It can also lead to financial difficulties. If you need Tulsi leaves for worship, pluck them on the tenth day (Dashami Tithi) and keep them aside.
Do not offer water
According to religious beliefs, Goddess Tulsi observes a waterless fast on Ekadashi. Offering water to Tulsi on this day can break her fast. Therefore, offering water to Tulsi on Ekadashi is prohibited.
Maintain cleanliness
Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, resides in clean places. Therefore, do not keep shoes or slippers near the Tulsi plant. Also, keep the dustbin away.
Do this
On the evening of Jaya Ekadashi, a lamp of pure ghee should be lit near the Tulsi plant. It is believed that performing this ritual brings the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi into the house and creates opportunities for financial gain.
