This ashram is located about 17 km from Nainital and 9 km from Bhawali and its ashram was built in the 1960s by Neeb Karoli Baba, a well-known spiritual guru of that era. This ashram was built on June 15, 1964, by Neeb Karoli Baba (Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Significance) and his devotees.

Baba was also known as Maharaj Ji and many people consider him to be the incarnation of Hanuman Ji. In this temple, along with Neeb Karoli Baba, there are temples of other deities including Hanuman Ji, and Ram-Sita. He was an ardent devotee of Hanuman Ji and he built many temples of Hanuman Ji during his lifetime.

Who was Neeb Karoli Baba?

Neeb Karoli Baba, known by his devotees as Maharaj Ji, was born in a wealthy Brahmin landowner family in Akbarpur village of Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh (India). His name was Laxmi Narayan Sharma and he was married even at the age of 11. However, soon after marriage, he left home and went to Gujarat and roamed around different places across the country. He performed many miracles throughout his lifetime and showed people the way to live life.

He also built two ashrams, one in Kainchi in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand and the other in Vrindavan in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. He chose Vrindavan for his Mahasamadhi. After reaching Agra on September 10, he immediately left for Vrindavan, where he took Mahasamadhi on September 11, 1973.

Neeb Karauli Baba's ashram is called Kainchi Dham because it is located in Kainchi. According to the official website of the Uttarakhand government, this place is located between two hills, which cut each other to form the shape of scissors, so it is called Kainchi Dham. There is a cave near the Kainchi Temple, which is said to be the place where Maharajji used to meditate and pray.
