Lip Care Tips: Dealing with dry, peeling lips? Here’s how to keep your lips hydrated during the monsoon..

While chapped lips are typically associated with winter, the problem is quite common during the monsoon season as well. Factors such as low water intake—despite the humidity in the air—frequent licking of the lips, and sun exposure can cause dryness. This leads to the formation of dry flakes and peeling skin, and can sometimes cause a burning sensation or pain.

Instead of purchasing expensive lip care products, you can keep your lips soft and hydrated using simple home remedies. With proper care and good habits, your lips can remain soft, pink, and healthy even during the monsoon.

Honey is considered a natural moisturizer that helps retain lip moisture. Apply half a teaspoon of honey to your lips and rinse it off with water after 10 to 15 minutes. Using it at night is considered particularly beneficial.

Coconut oil helps soften the lips. Take 2–3 drops and gently massage them onto your lips. Applying it before going to bed yields the best results; there is no need to wash it off.

If honey or coconut oil is unavailable, *desi ghee* (clarified butter) can be used. Apply a small amount of ghee to your lips before sleeping and leave it on; your lips may feel much softer by morning.

Aloe vera gel has long been used for skin and lip care. Apply a small amount of fresh aloe vera gel to your lips for 10 minutes and then rinse with water. However, perform a patch test before using it for the first time, as some people may be allergic to it.

To remove dead skin from your lips, mix half a teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of honey. Gently rub this mixture onto your lips for 30 to 40 seconds. Afterward, rinse with water and apply lip balm. Use this scrub only once a week. Avoid these mistakes: break the habit of repeatedly licking your lips, do not pull off dry skin, and avoid applying matte lipstick excessively on a daily basis. Using an SPF-infused lip balm when stepping out can also be beneficial. If persistent pain, bleeding, or severe dryness continues despite using home remedies, it is best to consult a dermatologist.
