Lord Jagannath will grant darshan in His 'Navayauvan' (new youth) form today after 15 days; check the Yatra schedule..

Naba Jaubana Darshan 2026 Today: Today, July 15, marks the observance of 'Naba Jaubana Darshan' (the vision of the deities in their rejuvenated youthful form) at the world-famous Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, ahead of the grand Rath Yatra festival. This is the sacred occasion when Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra appear before devotees in their rejuvenated youthful forms for the first time following 'Snana Purnima' (the bathing festival). Lakhs of devotees flock to Puri on this day to catch a glimpse of the divine forms of the deities. Following today's Naba Jaubana Darshan, the famous Rath Yatra will commence tomorrow, July 16, and conclude on Monday, July 27. Let us understand the significance of Naba Jaubana Darshan...

What is Naba Jaubana Darshan?
On 'Snana Purnima' (falling on Jyeshtha Purnima), Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra undergo a grand ceremonial bath (*Mahabhisheka*) using holy water from 108 golden pitchers. According to religious belief, the three deities contract a fever (*Anasara*) following this special bath. Subsequently, they rest in a special chamber within the temple for approximately 15 days, during which public viewing is suspended. Throughout this period, 'Daitapati' servitors attend to the deities by administering herbal medicines, offering special *Bhog* (ritual food offerings), and providing care. Once the deities have fully recovered, they are adorned with new attire and ornaments, appearing in a fresh, youthful form. This first sighting is known as 'Naba Jaubana Darshan.' It is considered an auspicious occasion marking the deities' return to the midst of devotees after regaining their health.

The Most Significant Viewing Before Rath Yatra
The very next day after Naba Jaubana Darshan—tomorrow, July 16—the deities board three magnificent chariots to embark on a journey to the Gundicha Temple, the abode of their aunt. Consequently, this viewing, which takes place just before the Rath Yatra, is regarded as extremely auspicious and rare. It is believed that offering prayers with devotion on this day invokes the special grace of Lord Jagannath and leads to the fulfillment of devotees' wishes.

Significance of the Puri Rath Yatra
The Puri Rath Yatra is counted among the world's largest religious events. Every year, hundreds of thousands of devotees from across India and many other countries arrive to participate in this grand festival. The tradition of devotees pulling massive wooden chariots using ropes has existed for centuries. It is believed that the privilege of pulling the Lord's chariot brings spiritual merit and alleviates life's hardships. From a religious perspective, both Navayauvana Darshan and the Rath Yatra symbolize devotion to Lord Jagannath, surrender, and a spirit of public welfare. This is why devotees eagerly await these two events throughout the year.
