Maha Shivratri 2026: Mahashivratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Phalgun, and this year, this auspicious date will be celebrated on Sunday, February 15th. According to religious beliefs, on Mahashivratri, Lord Shiva first manifested from his formless form into a tangible form. It was also the day when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married. It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva with proper rituals, observing a fast, and staying awake all night on this day brings fulfillment of desires, freedom from illness, and the blessings of salvation. Furthermore, one is freed from the inauspicious effects of planets and stars, and all tasks are accomplished by the grace of Mahadev. On this auspicious day, special abhishekam and offering of bhog to the Shivalinga are considered extremely important. Let's learn about the offerings to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri, and what to do and what not to do on this day.
