Mahashivratri puja is done at night, so the fast of Mahashivratri will also be done on 26 February. On this day, Lord Shiva will be worshipped and Jalabhishek will also be done.

On the day of Mahashivratri, the Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva starts from Brahma Muhurta. However, the most suitable time to do the Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva on this day is in the morning. On this day, the time from 6:48 am to 9:41 am is the most suitable time to do Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.

After this, one should take a bath and offer water to Lord Surya.

Then one should go to the temple or at home and anoint the Shivling by mixing curd, milk, honey, ghee and Ganga water.

After this, special things including Akshat, Moli, Chandan, Belpatra, Betel Nut, Paan, Fruit, Flower and Coconut should be offered to the Shivling.

Mantras of Mahadev should be chanted.

Mahadev should be offered fruits, sweets and other things.

A ghee lamp should be lit in front of Mahadev.

In the end, Aarti of Mahadev should be performed.
