First prahar: 06:19 pm to 09:26 pm

Second prahar: 09:26 pm to 12:34 am, February 27

Third prahar: 12:34 pm to 03:41 am, February 27

Fourth prahar: 03:41 pm to 06:48 am, February 27

Rules of Mahashivratri fast

On this day, wake up in Brahma Muhurta, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. After bathing, meditate on Lord Shiva and take a vow to fast.
If you are not observing Nirjala Vrat, then eat fruits. Avoid onion, garlic, and tamasic food.

Chant Shiva mantras regularly on this day. Chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" and the Mahamrityunjaya mantra is very beneficial.

Good conduct should be followed on this day. Stay away from anger, arrogance, slander, etc. Be restrained and keep your mind calm.

Apart from this, stay immersed in Shiva devotion throughout the night and do bhajan-kirtan. Worship Shivling in four prahars.

Method of worship of Mahashivratri

Offer water, milk, curd, honey, ghee, and Gangajal to perform Abhishek of Shivling.

Offer Belpatra, Dhatura, sandalwood, Akshat, Bhasm, and white flowers. Also, light incense and perform aarti of Shiva and sing bhajans.

During this time, you can also recite Shiv Puran and Rudrashtak.

Breaking the fast
Breaking the fast the next day after sunrise. After this, feed Brahmins and give them alms. Shivaratri is considered a symbol of the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. Fasting on this day liberates one from all sins and attains salvation.
