Whether you are looking for a savory snack to enjoy with your evening tea or something fun to pack in your children’s lunchbox, bread rolls are a perfect choice. Typically, bread rolls are deep-fried, which often makes people hesitant to eat them; however, you can also prepare them on a griddle (tawa) using very little oil.

Yes, making bread rolls this way doesn't compromise the flavor, nor does it require excessive oil. Let’s look at a super simple recipe for making 'tawa' (griddle-cooked) bread rolls.

Ingredients for Tawa Bread Rolls:
Boiled potatoes - 4
Green chilies - 1-2
Ginger - 1/2 tsp
Green peas - 2-3 tsp
Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tsp
Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
Amchur (dry mango) powder - 1/2 tsp
Roasted cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Bread slices - 8
Butter or oil - for cooking
Instructions for making Tawa Bread Rolls:
First, mash the boiled potatoes in a large bowl. Add the chopped green chilies, grated ginger, boiled peas, and fresh coriander leaves.
Next, add the red chili powder, garam masala, amchur powder, roasted cumin powder, and salt to taste. Mix everything well and shape the mixture into small rolls.
Now, trim off the edges of the bread slices. Briefly dip each slice into water and then remove it immediately. Place the bread between your palms and press it gently to squeeze out all the water.
Now, place the potato roll in the center of the bread and fold the bread from all sides to completely cover the potato roll.
Seal the edges of the bread, then heat a non-stick pan and grease it with some butter.

Place the bread roll on the pan and cook it over medium heat, turning it to ensure both sides are toasted.
Once the bread roll turns golden brown, remove it from the pan.
Serve the pan-toasted bread rolls with green coriander-mint chutney or tomato ketchup.
