Mokshada Ekadashi 2025 fast rules: The Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the month of Margashirsha is known as Mokshada Ekadashi. This fast is specifically dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is believed to grant salvation to devotees. According to the Vedic calendar, this year, this sacred fast will be observed on December 1, 2025. Mokshada Ekadashi is not only religiously significant, but it also symbolizes spiritual purification and salvation of the soul.

This day also holds unique historical and religious significance. It is believed that Lord Krishna preached the Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra on this day, hence it is also celebrated as Gita Jayanti. Fasting on this occasion and worshipping Lord Vishnu brings peace, spiritual strength, and salvation.
What to eat during the fast?
On this holy day, you can eat all kinds of fresh fruits, such as bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, etc. Fruits are a good source of energy and freshness during the Phalahar fast.
Milk, yogurt, cheese, and buttermilk can be consumed. These are considered sattvic and beneficial for digestion.
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro, and water chestnut flour can be eaten during the fast. These are easily digestible and energy-giving foods.
Kuttu flour, water chestnut flour, sago, and amaranth can be used during the fast. These can be used to prepare light and nutritious dishes.
Eat sattvic vegetables, such as tomatoes, carrots, gourds, cucumbers, etc. These provide lightness and energy to the body.
Rock salt, black pepper, ginger, and green chilies can be used in fruit diets.
What not to eat during the fast?
Rice, wheat, pulses, and common salt should not be consumed on fasting days.
Stay away from garlic, onions, meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, and other tamasic foods.
Avoid using turmeric, asafoetida, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and heavy spices during the fast.
Do not eat stale or reheated food on Ekadashi.
Avoid eating twice a day. If possible, observe a fruit-only fast.
Rules for Mokshada Ekadashi Fast
On Dashami, eat satvik food and avoid grains like rice, barley, etc.
Wake up early on the Ekadashi morning and take a bath.
Worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna and take a vow to observe the fast.
Recite the mantra "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya" 108 times.

On the occasion of Geeta Jayanti, recite the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.
If possible, stay awake at night and sing bhajans and kirtans.
Break the fast only after sunrise on Dwadashi.
Before breaking the fast, feed a Brahmin, the poor, or the needy and give donations.
Break the fast before eating.
It is mandatory to break the fast before the end of Dwadashi Tithi.
