SBI Account Holders to Face Deductions Due to Rule Changes; Impact on Savings and Salary Accounts. If you hold a savings or salary account with the State Bank of India (SBI), you will face additional costs starting October 1, 2026. The bank is set to implement rule changes that will affect customers from next month (October 1), as both savings and salary account holders will have to pay higher charges for cash withdrawals. The bank has provided details regarding this on its website.

**Changes to Cash Withdrawal Rules**
SBI has announced that new charges for cash withdrawals from Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts opened at bank branches will come into effect on October 1, 2026. BSBD account holders will be allowed four free cash withdrawals per month. However, any transaction beyond this—specifically the fifth transaction—will incur a charge; a fee of ₹15 plus GST will apply to ATM withdrawals. Customers will now need to keep track of their transaction count when withdrawing money from ATMs.
**Charges on Salary Accounts**
While transactions and ATM cash withdrawals are typically free for salary accounts, SBI is preparing to modify the rules for these accounts as well. According to the bank, plans are underway to halve the monthly limit for free transactions. Starting October 1, 2026, the limit for transactions using a debit card at other banks' ATMs and Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs) for SBI salary account holders will be capped at five per month, down from the previous limit of ten.
**Charges on Non-Financial Transactions**
The limit for ATM cash withdrawals for SBI salary accounts has been reduced. Notably, a limit of five free transactions at other banks' ATMs has been set, covering both financial and non-financial transactions. The bank has clarified that this applies not only to cash withdrawals but also to non-financial services at ATMs, such as checking account balances and obtaining mini-statements.
It has been stated that after the free limit is exhausted—specifically for the sixth transaction in a month—a charge of ₹23 plus GST will apply to cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, for non-financial transactions exceeding the free limit, a charge of ₹11 plus GST will be levied.
