Every parent wants their child to be confident, happy, and open about expressing themselves. However, some children get scared easily, hesitate to interact openly with others, shy away from voicing their opinions, or appear constantly timid. Parents often mistake this for the child's inherent nature, whereas, in many cases, the home environment and the behavior of adults play a significant role.

**Frequent Scolding Can Take a Toll**
Constantly scolding a child over trivial matters can instill a sense of insecurity. They become consumed by the fear of making mistakes while doing anything. Gradually, their self-confidence erodes, and they begin to avoid speaking up altogether.
**Excessive Strictness**
While discipline is essential, excessive strictness can negatively impact a child's mental development. If there are rules, restrictions, and pressure at every turn, the child may become afraid to think independently or make decisions. This can lead to a timid and fearful nature.
**Comparing with Others**
Remarks like "Look, he is so much better than you" can deeply hurt a child. Constant comparisons make them feel inadequate. This sentiment can undermine their self-esteem, causing them to gradually withdraw into a shell.
**An Atmosphere of Anger**
Frequent arguments or parents raising their voices in anger can have a profound impact on a child, making them feel unsafe. In such an environment, many children retreat into silence and stop expressing their emotions.
**Not Listening to the Child**
Caught up in their busy lives, adults often fail to attach importance to the things children say. When a child feels unheard, they gradually speak less, which in turn affects their self-confidence.
**Trying to Control Everything**
If parents interfere in every decision a child makes and deny them the opportunity to have their own preferences or opinions, the child may lose the ability to trust themselves. In the future, the child begins to feel afraid even when making small decisions.
What can be done?
Talk to the child with love and patience. Try to understand their feelings and listen to them attentively. Praise them for small successes and view mistakes as opportunities to learn. A positive and safe home environment plays a crucial role in building the child's self-confidence.
