Parenting: Will a child who is not vaccinated on time get sick? Know from the doctor..

Child Vaccination: Vaccination of the child after birth is very important. All these vaccines protect the child from serious diseases like measles, chickenpox, and polio. Although babies get protection from some diseases from their mothers, it lasts only till the age of 6 months. Therefore, timely vaccination is very important from the birth of the child. These vaccinations are very important to strengthen the child's immune system. After getting them, the child can be protected from many life-threatening diseases. Now the question is, why is vaccination of the child necessary? Which vaccine is given at what age? What will happen if the vaccine is not given on time? What diseases are at risk due to not getting vaccinated on time? Dr. Kailash Soni, Pediatrician of Government Medical College Kannauj, is telling about this-

According to the report of Mayo Clinic, vaccines given in childhood protect children from many types of serious or potentially fatal diseases. Therefore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends getting vaccines like diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), hepatitis A, B, HPV, measles, polio, rotavirus, smallpox, and whooping cough by the age of 18 years.

Which vaccine is given at what age?

Hepatitis A: Hepatitis A vaccine is given to the child after one year of age. This vaccination boosts immunity and reduces the risk of liver-related complications. The second dose of this vaccine is given between 18 and 19 months.

Chickenpox vaccine: The child is given the chickenpox vaccine at 12 to 15 months. This vaccine protects the child from chickenpox and its serious complications, such as bacterial skin infection, pneumonia, and encephalitis.

MMR vaccine: The second dose of MMR is given to the child when he is 15 months old. This vaccine protects the child from diseases like measles and rubella. Measles can cause pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death. Rubella can cause deafness.

PCV Booster: After initially taking 3 shots of PCV booster, a 15-month-old child is given one more vaccine. Children under 2 years of age are especially at risk of pneumonia because their immune system is not fully developed.

Hib Booster: This vaccine protects the child from brain damage and deafness. The first dose is given at 2 months, the second at 4 months, the third at 6 months, and the fourth dose at the age of 12 to 15 months. However, in India, the dose and age of the vaccine given to the child may be different.

What will happen if the vaccine is not given on time?

Dr. Kailash Soni explains that it is very important for the child to get all the vaccines, even if it is administered a little earlier or later than the scheduled time. If this is not done, the risk of serious diseases like measles, polio, whooping cough and meningitis can increase in the child. Not only this, sometimes the child can even die due to permanent disability. Some children can also get paralyzed due to diseases like polio.

What to do in such a situation

If the child has not been vaccinated on time, then contact the doctor immediately. With his advice, the vaccine can be administered a little later than the scheduled time. Doing this can prevent serious diseases. Also, children with weak immunity living in the community will be able to stay safe.
