Petrol Diesel LPG Prices Today: Fuel Consumption Shifts in September, Check October 7 Rates

Petrol Diesel LPG Prices Today: India's fuel consumption recorded noticeable changes in September 2026, with diesel and petrol demand rising on a year-on-year basis even as some petroleum products showed a decline. LPG consumption, meanwhile, presented a mixed picture, increasing sharply from August but remaining lower than the same month last year.

Despite these changes in consumption patterns, retail prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG were reported unchanged on October 7, 2026, according to the information available in the source report.

In Delhi, petrol continues to be priced at ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel is available at ₹95.20 per litre. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in the national capital remains at ₹942, while a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder costs ₹2,810.

Meanwhile, data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) showed that India's overall fuel consumption increased during September.

India's Fuel Consumption Rises 3.9% in September

India consumed around 19.26 million tonnes of fuel in September, representing an increase of 3.9% compared with the previous month.

On a year-on-year basis, total fuel consumption was up by approximately 3.4%, according to the PPAC figures cited in the report.

The individual fuel categories, however, showed significantly different trends.

Diesel demand increased both month-on-month and year-on-year, while petrol recorded a monthly decline despite maintaining strong annual growth.

LPG consumption also rose sharply compared with August but fell compared with September 2025.

Diesel Sales Rise to 7.16 Million Tonnes

Diesel consumption reached approximately 7.16 million tonnes in September 2026.

This represented an increase of about 2% compared with August and a stronger 5.4% increase from the same period a year earlier.

Diesel is widely used across transportation, agriculture, logistics and industrial activities, making its consumption an important indicator of broader economic activity.

The annual increase therefore highlights continued demand even though trends can vary considerably from one month to another.

Petrol Demand Falls Monthly but Rises 7.9% Annually

Petrol showed a different trend.

Consumption stood at approximately 3.67 million tonnes during September.

Compared with August, petrol demand fell by around 4.4%. However, when compared with the same month last year, consumption was approximately 7.9% higher.

This means that while petrol sales softened on a sequential basis, the longer year-on-year comparison continued to show growth.

Monthly changes in fuel consumption can be influenced by several factors, so a single month's decline does not necessarily indicate a longer-term fall in demand.

LPG Consumption Shows a Mixed Trend

Liquefied Petroleum Gas consumption stood at around 2.54 million tonnes in September.

Compared with August, LPG consumption increased by approximately 8.5%.

However, compared with September 2025, LPG consumption was around 9.2% lower.

This divergence between monthly and annual comparisons makes LPG one of the more notable categories in the latest fuel-consumption data.

Bitumen Consumption Jumps 34.7%

One of the biggest month-on-month increases was reported in bitumen.

Bitumen consumption jumped by approximately 34.7% compared with August.

The material is extensively used in road construction and infrastructure projects. Higher bitumen consumption can therefore coincide with stronger road-building and construction activity, although the monthly figure alone does not establish the overall direction of the infrastructure sector.

Naphtha Consumption Drops

Naphtha recorded a decline during the month.

Consumption stood at approximately 700,000 tonnes, according to the figures provided in the report.

This was around 16.2% lower than in August and approximately 25.2% below the year-earlier level.

The decline contrasts sharply with the annual growth reported in petrol and diesel demand.

Jet Fuel Consumption at 730,000 Tonnes

Aviation turbine fuel, commonly known as jet fuel, recorded consumption of approximately 730,000 tonnes in September.

The figure was broadly unchanged from August, according to the report.

Together, these numbers show that different segments of India's petroleum market moved in different directions during September rather than following a single uniform trend.

Petrol and Diesel Prices on October 7

Retail petrol and diesel prices were reported unchanged on October 7.

In benchmark Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel costs ₹95.20 per litre.

The source report lists petrol in Lucknow at ₹102.05 per litre and diesel at ₹99.28 per litre.

Consumers should remember that fuel prices can differ between cities because of factors such as local taxes, transportation expenses and dealer-related components.

CNG Prices in Delhi-NCR and Other Cities

CNG prices also vary considerably depending on the city and distribution area.

According to the rates cited in the report, CNG in Delhi is priced at ₹86.98 per kg.

In Noida, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and Gautam Buddha Nagar, the listed rate is ₹95.59 per kg.

CNG is priced at ₹95.47 per kg in Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Shamli.

In Rajasthan's Ajmer, Pali and Rajsamand, the reported CNG price is ₹96.33 per kg.

The listed price is ₹92.01 per kg in Gurugram, ₹91.59 in Rewari and ₹91.32 in Karnal.

LPG Cylinder Prices Remain Unchanged

Domestic and commercial LPG prices were also reported unchanged on October 7.

In Delhi, a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder costs ₹942, while the 19-kg commercial cylinder is priced at ₹2,810.

Among the locations mentioned in the report, Leh has significantly higher LPG prices. A domestic cylinder there is listed at ₹1,179, while a commercial LPG cylinder costs around ₹3,450.

LPG prices vary across locations due to transportation and other market-related factors.

What the September Fuel Data Shows

The latest numbers indicate that India's overall fuel consumption increased both sequentially and annually in September, but individual petroleum products followed different patterns.

Diesel demand rose 5.4% year-on-year, while petrol consumption increased 7.9% annually despite declining 4.4% from August. LPG recorded the opposite pattern, climbing 8.5% month-on-month but falling 9.2% year-on-year.

Bitumen posted a particularly strong monthly increase of 34.7%, while naphtha consumption declined sharply.

For consumers, however, the immediate takeaway on October 7, 2026 is that the petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG rates cited in the report have not changed today. Since retail fuel prices can vary by location, consumers should check the applicable rate in their city before making a purchase.
