Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025: The Maha Kumbh of the great festival of faith started on 13 January, after which the first Amrit bath was done in Sangam on the day of Makar Sankranti, the second Amrit bath on the day of Mauni Amavasya and the third Amrit bath was done on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. After the third royal bath, the Naga sadhus have started the return journey, but the Maha Kumbh has not yet ended. It will conclude on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. At the same time, the last Mahasnan of Mahakumbh will also be done on this day.

The process of Naga sadhus and saints returning from Maha Kumbh started after Basant Panchami i.e. the third Amrit bath. All Naga sadhus have started the return journey with their respective akhadas. However, even after this, the Kumbh Mela will continue till Mahashivratri. Before bidding farewell to the Maha Kumbh Mela, the sadhus and saints first consume Kadhi and Bhaji. Before the Naga Sadhus depart for their Akhara, special Kadhi and Bhajis are prepared for them. The work of preparing this curry and bhaji is done by the local native community there.
Importance of eating curry and bhaji
Eating curry and bhaji during the return from Maha Kumbh is seen as a Guru-disciple tradition. This tradition is seen in every Akhara during the Kumbh Mela. The Nabhik community serves food to the monks there with great devotion. These Kadhi and Bhajis are prepared according to the number of sadhus and saints of the Akhara present in the Kumbh Mela. While returning to their original place from the Kumbh Mela, the Naga Sadhus eat Kadhi-Bhaji and only then depart. They do not depart without this. This tradition has been going on for hundreds of years.
