In the month of Sawan (Sawan 2025), a crowd of devotees will start gathering to perform Jalabhishek of Shivling in the court of Baba Bhole. On the occasion of Sawan starting from July 11, devotees of Bholenath (Lord Shiva devotees) will travel with Kanwad and will anoint their idol with the water of holy rivers.

In such a situation, apart from common devotees, separate arrangements for Jalabhishek are made for Kanwariyas in the main temple. In this too, a special place is made for Kanwariyas wearing white clothes. Kanwariyas enter the temple shouting slogans like Har Har Mahadev, Bol Bam, Om Namah Shivay.

Kanwariyas wearing white clothes hold special importance in the temple. This color is considered a symbol of peace, purity, and cleanliness. "Dak Bam" Kanwariyas reach the temple directly with water without stopping and perform Abhishek of Bholenath.

Therefore, a separate lane is often arranged for them. Whereas most people carry a normal Kanwad and wear saffron clothes. These people complete the Kanwad Yatra by stopping on the way.

Who are the Dak Bam Kanwadiyas?

This is the most difficult form of Kanwad Yatra, in which the devotees of Bholenath, after taking water from the river, reach the Shiva temple directly without stopping, without getting tired, without taking rest. They have to perform Jalabhishek within 24 hours of filling water. Barefoot and running, these Kanwadiyas take water and go to perform Jalabhishek of the Lord.

No one stops them on the way, nor are they stopped when they reach the temple. Because if they stop anywhere on the way, their journey is considered broken. To fulfill their resolution, they have to start the journey again.

That is why no one stops them. To identify them separately, the devotees carrying the Dak Bam Kanwad wear white clothes. Dak Bam Kanwadiyas are mostly seen in Purvanchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Religious significance of white colour

White colour is considered to stabilize the mind, remove negativity, and is a symbol of peace. It is believed that wearing white clothes maintains purity of mind and character. That is why Dak Kanwadias go out wearing white clothes.
