Our smile not only enhances facial beauty but also boosts confidence and personality. Healthy and strong teeth make chewing, speaking, and digestion easier. However, neglecting oral hygiene can quickly lead to several problems like cavities, gum inflammation, weak teeth, or yellowing.

While brushing is important, it's not enough to prevent these problems. Adopting some healthy dental habits is crucial for proper dental care. Let's learn about some healthy habits that can help you maintain healthy teeth for a lifetime.
How to take proper care of your teeth?
Brush twice a day - It's essential to brush first thing in the morning and before going to bed at night. Sleeping without cleaning your teeth at night promotes bacterial growth and increases the risk of cavities.
Use the correct technique - When brushing, clean gently in circular motions for 2-3 minutes. Brushing too hard or using a hard-bristle brush can damage tooth enamel and gums.
Floss daily - Flossing removes food particles and plaque stuck between teeth that brushing alone cannot clean. It's also beneficial for gum health.
Use mouthwash - Antibacterial mouthwash kills bacteria and keeps breath fresh. It's especially important for people who suffer from bad breath.
Limit sugar intake - Eating too much sugar causes a layer of bacteria to form on the teeth, which produces acid that weakens them. Avoid sugary drinks and candies.
Eat a nutrient-rich diet - Calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D are essential for healthy teeth. Milk, yogurt, cheese, almonds, green vegetables, and sesame seeds are good sources of these nutrients.
Drink plenty of water - Drinking water after meals helps remove food particles stuck in the teeth and maintains the mouth's pH balance. Water keeps saliva active, which acts as a natural cleanser.
Avoid tobacco and smoking – these not only stain teeth but also increase the risk of gum disease and oral cancer.
Use your teeth properly – never use your teeth to open bottles, tear open packages, or bite on pens. This can cause teeth to break or crack.
Get regular dental checkups – it's essential to see a dentist every six months. This allows for early detection of problems and prevents more serious damage.
