Significance of Sakat Chauth
Sakat Chauth is an important fast in Hinduism, observed especially by mothers for the well-being, prosperity, and longevity of their children. This fast is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the dark fortnight of the Magha month. It is also known as Tilkuta Chauth or Sankashti Chaturthi.

On this day, the worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Sakat is of special importance. Women observing the fast abstain from food and water throughout the day and break their fast only after sighting the moon at night. Sesame seeds, jaggery, ladoos, and modaks are offered during the puja. It is believed that observing the Sakat Chauth fast removes problems related to children and brings peace and happiness to the home.

Sakat Chauth Puja Method
On the day of Sakat Chauth, take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. Clean the house and purify the puja area.

Observe a fast throughout the day and resolve the well-being and prosperity of your children.

In the evening, spread a red or yellow cloth on a platform. Place the idol or picture of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Sakat on it.

In the worship of Lord Ganesha, offer sesame seeds, jaggery, modaks, ladoos, flowers, durva grass, roli (vermilion), rice, and a lamp.

First, light the lamp and meditate on Lord Ganesha. Then apply roli and rice as a tilak and offer flowers and durva grass. Offer the prasad made of sesame seeds and jaggery.

After this, listen to or read the story of Sakat Chauth. At night, after the moon rises, offer water, flowers, and rice to the Moon God.

Break the fast only after sighting the moon and then partake of the prasad. It is believed that performing the Sakat Chauth puja with proper rituals removes problems related to children and brings peace and happiness to the family.
