We often think that toilet water is useless and it can be cleaned and used only for irrigation or other basic needs. But a recent statement by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has surprised everyone. According to him, the government is earning Rs 300 crore every year from toilet water. It may be surprising to hear this, but it is completely true. Let's know how this is possible.

How is earning from toilet water?
According to Nitin Gadkari, the government has adopted a unique way to make wastewater useful by recycling it. In this process, dirty toilet water is treated and then made reusable. He cited his parliamentary constituency Nagpur at the Times Now Summit 2025 and said that he used to earn Rs 300 crore every year from toilet water.
When he was the Water Resources Minister, he started a project in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. In this, wastewater was treated and sold to Mathura Refinery. In this, the government invested 40% and private investors invested 60%. After this, for the first time, this liquid waste management project was very successful.
Similarly, Gadkari said that toilet water is being sold in Nagpur Municipal Corporation. They earn 300 crores rupees every year from this. The Union Minister said that if wastewater is recycled and used in every city of the country, then it will be a very good policy for solid waste management and liquid waste management, which is being tried.
Recycled water is being sold to industries
Many big industries in India need a lot of water in their factories.
Instead of using fresh water, the government is selling treated wastewater to them.
This is helping in overcoming the water shortage and the government is also earning.
Used in thermal power plants
Thermal power plants need a huge amount of water.
According to Gadkari, treated water is now being used in these plants.
The government is earning Rs 300 crore every year from this.

Earnings will increase further in the future
Nitin Gadkari also said that this process will be expanded in the coming time. This will further increase government revenue and will also help in reducing the water crisis in the country.
Toilet water, which was considered useless till now, is now making a big contribution to the country's economy. Not only is the environment benefiting from this scheme, but the government is also earning crores. This shows that with the right technology and thinking, anything can be made valuable.
