If you or a family member have invested money in Post Office small savings schemes, there is great news that brings relief. Millions of investors in excellent government schemes like the Public Provident Fund (PPF), Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), and Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS) can now easily transfer their accounts from the Post Office to a bank of their choice.

According to reports, the best part is that you do not need to close your existing account for this transfer, and there will be no impact on your accumulated savings or the continuity of the account's maturity.
Why transfer your account?
While Post Office schemes are highly secure and offer excellent returns, investors often feel the need for digital banking, net banking, or the convenience of managing all their accounts in one place (a bank). This transfer facility offers significant relief to investors who wish to avoid repeated visits to the Post Office and prefer the convenience of banking via mobile or laptop.
What is the process for transferring the account?
Transferring your PPF, Sukanya Samriddhi, or SCSS account from the Post Office to a bank is a very simple process. You need to follow these steps:
1. First, visit the Post Office branch where your account is currently held.
2. Fill out an account transfer form (Transfer Application Form). You will also need to submit your original account passbook and KYC documents (such as Aadhaar and PAN card).
3. You will be required to pay a transfer fee of ₹100 plus GST to facilitate the transfer from the Post Office to the bank.
4. After you submit the form, the Post Office will transfer the entire account balance and the necessary documents to your chosen bank.
5. Once your documents reach the new bank, they may ask you to fill out a new account opening form and complete the KYC formalities. Subsequently, your account will become active at the bank, and you will be issued a new passbook.
