Vastu Tips: Ensure nothing is left wanting in welcoming Goddess Lakshmi—remove these inauspicious items from your home before Diwali.

Everyone eagerly awaits the festival of Diwali. Long before the festival arrives, the cleaning of homes begins. Often, during this cleaning process, we end up keeping certain items in the house instead of removing them.

If you are also making this mistake, then according to religious beliefs, Goddess Lakshmi will not enter your home; instead, negativity and poverty may take root. You might be wondering: what exactly should be removed from the house before Diwali?

Items to remove from your home
To welcome Goddess Lakshmi and ensure the flow of positive energy during Diwali, Vastu Shastra suggests removing the following inauspicious items from your home immediately:

Damaged idols and pictures – According to Vastu Shastra, keeping damaged (broken) idols or pictures in a home shrine (mandir) is considered inauspicious. Their presence increases negative energy and disrupts spiritual energy. Therefore, before Diwali, such idols and pictures should either be immersed in a sacred river or placed under a Peepal tree.

Stopped or broken clocks – Keeping stopped or broken clocks in the house is also discouraged. These are considered symbols of misfortune and obstacles to progress. During your Diwali cleaning, either remove these clocks from your home or get them repaired. According to Vastu Shastra, having a stopped or broken clock in the house can hinder the progress of family members.

Old and torn footwear – Vastu Shastra states that keeping old, worn-out, or torn footwear in the house generates negative energy, which can have an adverse effect on the family members. Therefore, one should strictly avoid keeping such footwear at home. If you have such footwear in your home, remove it today.

Broken glass and utensils—furthermore, you should not keep cracked utensils or broken glass in your home. Doing so can lead to *Vastu dosha* (Vastu-related defects). Remove these items immediately to avoid poverty.
