For some time now, reports have been circulating suggesting that if customers fail to complete their e-KYC, their gas connections will be disconnected. The Central Government has now issued a clarification regarding these reports. The Ministry of Petroleum has stated that e-KYC is required only for those customers whose verification process has not yet been completed.

The government has clarified that this is not a new rule. Through social media platforms, the Ministry informed that this initiative is merely a continuation of an ongoing campaign. Its sole objective is to ensure that the maximum number of gas customers complete their biometric verification, thereby preventing fraudulent activities within the system.
Who needs to complete e-KYC, and who does not?
If you are a regular LPG customer and have already completed your e-KYC in the past, there is absolutely no need for you to undergo this process again. This rule applies only to those customers whose records have not yet been updated.
However, the rules are slightly different for customers under the 'Ujjwala Scheme.' These customers are required to undergo biometric verification at least once during every financial year. Furthermore, this verification is mandatory only for those Ujjwala customers who wish to avail themselves of the benefits of the targeted Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidy applicable to the 8th and 9th gas cylinder refills obtained within a year (after having already received 7 cylinders).
How to complete e-KYC from the comfort of your home?
Customers do not need to visit their gas agencies to complete the e-KYC process for their gas connections. The Ministry states that the e-KYC process can be completed easily and free of cost from the comfort of one's home. Customers can complete this process themselves by using the mobile application provided by their respective gas service providers. To complete the e-KYC, you will only require your 'Aadhaar Card' and your 'Registered Mobile Number.'
