Morning Sickness During Pregnancy: In the early months of pregnancy, women often experience morning sickness. This is common and occurs in most women. The body is adapting to new hormonal changes, the digestive system becomes unstable, and emotions become more sensitive. Nausea intensifies when the stomach is empty, and the smell of certain foods can cause discomfort. The question is, why does morning sickness occur during pregnancy? What problems does it cause? Let's find out what Ayurveda says.

What is Morning Sickness?
From a scientific perspective, the hCG hormone (human chorionic gonadotropin) increases rapidly, activating the brain's vomiting center. Low blood sugar and increased sensitivity to smells also contribute to nausea. Symptoms include vomiting upon waking, a bitter taste in the mouth, dizziness, fatigue, a feeling of mild fever, and heartburn.
Ways to Reduce Morning Sickness
- According to Ayurveda, the main cause is an increase in the Pitta dosha and mental instability. It can be significantly reduced with Ayurvedic and home remedies. The most effective is ginger. Drinking lukewarm ginger water or chewing ginger first thing in the morning improves digestion and prevents nausea.
- Lukewarm water with lemon and honey also provides relief. Lemon calms Pitta, and honey provides energy. However, if you experience heartburn, reduce your lemon intake. Also, the aroma of cardamom provides instant relief. Chew on it or drink cardamom water twice a day. These remedies are mild and safe and can be easily carried while traveling.
- Yoga and breathing exercises are also helpful. Gentle pranayama techniques calm Pitta; take slow, deep breaths and meditate for 5 minutes in the morning. Avoid strenuous yoga poses or jerky movements, as nausea decreases only when the mind is calm.
- Pay special attention to your diet. Avoid very oily, spicy, or heavy foods, eat small portions, have a light breakfast as soon you wake up, and avoid strong odors in your room. Lukewarm water is better; cold water can be harmful.

– Precautions are also necessary. If you experience severe nausea, persistent vomiting, decreased urination, or excessive fatigue, contact a doctor immediately. Maintaining mental well-being is also important. Increased stress can worsen nausea, so listen to calming music, practice deep breathing exercises, and create a relaxing environment throughout the day.
