With increasing age, women are surrounded by many types of diseases. Especially after menopause (periods stop), diseases start increasing. After menopause, the risk of heart disease in women also increases manifold. Experts say that most women suffer from heart attack to cardiac arrest only after menopause. Research by the medical journal The Lancet also shows that after the age of 45, the risk of heart disease in women is higher than before and it is related to menopause.

Menopause is a natural process that occurs in women. When women's periods stop, this is menopause. After this, women's fertility starts ending. This usually happens after the age of 50, but in some, it can also happen between 45 and 50. After menopause, the level of estrogen and progesterone hormones in women starts decreasing. When this happens, the risk of many diseases in the body increases.
What is the relation between menopause with heart attack?
Dr. Ajit Jain, Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiology at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Delhi, explains that due to the lack of estrogen in the body, the capillaries in the blood start hardening. This causes blockages in the heart veins. Since estrogen hormone keeps the arteries flexible after its decrease, the flexibility of the arteries starts decreasing as compared to before. Due to these reasons, the risk of heart attack increases.
Dr. Ajit Jain explains that metabolism can also slow down in women after menopause. Due to this, women become victims of obesity. Which is a major risk factor for heart disease. Apart from this, after the age of 50, women also start having problems with increased cholesterol and blockage in the heart veins. Both of these can also be a cause of heart attack.
Take care of these things after menopause.
Dietician Payal Gupta in Delhi explains that women need to take special care of their diet after menopause. Women need to consume green vegetables in their diet. Dry fruits should be included in the diet. It is important to drink an adequate amount of water. Apart from this, reduce the intake of salt, flour, and sugar. Do not smoke and consume alcohol.
