Yoga Tips for Lower Back Stiffness: Waking up with a stiff lower back or a feeling of heaviness in the body is a common experience for many. Daily habits—such as sitting in one position for extended periods, low physical activity, or poor posture—can affect the body's flexibility and comfort. In such cases, a gentle morning stretching routine can help gradually activate the body.

If you frequently experience lower back stiffness, starting your day with a few yoga stretches can be a simple and effective routine. Movements like the Cat-Cow stretch, Balasana (Child's Pose), Knee-to-Chest stretch, Spinal Twist, and Pelvic Tilt focus on gently stretching the body.
However, every individual's body is different. Perform stretches only within a comfortable range; if you experience sharp pain, numbness, weakness, or pain radiating down to your legs, stop the exercises and seek medical advice. The yoga poses described here can be performed in the morning using slow, controlled movements.
Cat-Cow Stretch
This is known as Marjaryasana-Bitilasana. Come onto your hands and knees. As you inhale, gently lower your spine and open your chest forward. As you exhale, slowly round your back. This movement helps improve spinal mobility.
Balasana (Child's Pose)
Kneel on the floor and lean your body forward, extending your arms out in front of you. Stretch only as far as feels comfortable. Keep your breathing normal and allow your body to relax.
Pelvic Tilt
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Gently engage your abdominal muscles to press your lower back toward the floor, then release. Ardha Pawanmuktasana
Lie on your back and gently bring one knee towards your chest. Hold the position comfortably for a few seconds, then switch legs. Do not force the stretch.

Markatasana
This pose is also known as Supta Matsyendrasana. Lie on your back and bend your knees. Gently move both knees to one side while keeping your shoulders resting comfortably on the ground. Then, repeat on the other side.
Keep in mind that sharp or stabbing pain during stretching is not normal. If back pain persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, consult a doctor.
