Today, momos have become a top favorite for everyone—from children to adults alike. The authentic flavor of momos comes from their spicy, vibrant red chutney. While many people manage to make momos at home, they often struggle to replicate the market-style taste in the accompanying chutney.

If you, too, are a momo enthusiast and wish to enjoy the taste of street-style momo chutney right at home, you can prepare a delicious version by following these simple steps. Let's dive into this easy-to-follow recipe.
Ingredients Required for the Chutney
2 dried Kashmiri red chilies
2 large tomatoes
2-3 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon sugar
1 small piece of ginger
1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
1 teaspoon vinegar
Salt to taste
A little oil
Method for Preparing the Chutney
Step 1: Boil the Red Chilies
First, heat some water in a pot, add the dried red chilies, and let them boil for 7–8 minutes. This process softens the chilies, making them easier to grind.
Step 2: Cook the Tomatoes
Now, boil the tomatoes until their outer skin begins to peel off slightly. If you desire a subtle smoky flavor in your chutney, you can also lightly roast the tomatoes directly over a gas flame. This will further enhance their delicious taste.
Step 3: Let the Tomatoes and Chilies Cool
Once the tomatoes and red chilies have finished boiling, drain off the excess water from both. Allow both ingredients to cool down for a while. Afterward, peel the skin off the tomatoes and cut them into two or three pieces.
Step 4: Grind All the Ingredients
To prepare the chutney, place the soaked red chilies, chopped tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and all other ingredients into a blender jar. Blend everything thoroughly to create a smooth puree. You may add a small amount of water if necessary, but be careful not to make the paste too runny.

Step 5: Lightly Cook the Chutney
To eliminate the raw taste from the paste, heat a small amount of oil in a pan and add the prepared puree. Cook it lightly for 2–3 minutes.
Step 6: Serve
Once the puree is thoroughly cooked, turn off the heat; your street-style Momo chutney is now ready. You can also store this chutney for 4–5 days.
