Whenever the world's most beautiful and well-planned cities are discussed, Paris, the capital of France, is the first to come to mind. Paris is renowned globally for its magnificent architecture, wide avenues, and aesthetic appeal; however, did you know that India also has a city known as the "Paris of India"?

This distinctive title belongs to Jaipur, India's "Pink City." Let us explore why Jaipur—celebrated for its historical heritage, forts, and palaces—is referred to as the Paris of India.
**Exemplary Town Planning**
Paris is known for its straight, wide streets and grid-based layout. Similarly, Jaipur is acclaimed for its excellent urban planning. The city was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who planned it in collaboration with the Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Jaipur stands as one of India's oldest and most systematically planned cities.
**Architectural Beauty**
Paris is defined by its historical buildings and their uniform aesthetic. A similar visual harmony is evident in Jaipur. In 1876, the entire city was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales; since then, all the city's historical buildings have maintained this uniform color scheme.
Structures such as Hawa Mahal, Amer Fort, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar offer tourists an architectural experience comparable to witnessing the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre Museum in Paris.
**A Hub of Art and Culture**
Paris is known as the fashion and art capital of the world. Jaipur, too, serves as a major center for art and fashion in India. For centuries, the city has been a stronghold of art, music, and handicrafts. Its famous blue pottery, *Bandhej* (tie-dye) sarees, *Kundan* and *Meenakari* jewelry, and handcrafted block-print textiles are renowned across the globe.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
It is precisely because of this historical and cultural significance that UNESCO declared Jaipur's walled city a World Heritage Site in 2019. It is due to these very qualities that Jaipur is known as the 'Paris of India'.
