Falgun Maas 2026: The month of Phalgun holds a unique significance in the Hindu calendar. This month is considered the last month of the Hindu year, yet it is associated with new beginnings, change, and positive energy. According to the calendar, the month of Phalgun began on Monday, February 2, 2026. This month is considered highly significant for purification, restraint, and spiritual growth. Along with Mahashivratri, the festival of Holi falls in the month of Phalgun, symbolizing the victory of truth over falsehood and the power of devotion. Therefore, the month of Phalgun is considered highly significant for receiving the blessings of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

The month of Phalgun holds significant religious and cultural significance. Many major festivals and celebrations occur during this month, the most prominent of which are Mahashivratri, Holi, and Purnima. Lord Shiva is worshipped on Mahashivratri, and night vigils and prayers hold special significance. This year, the month of Phalgun began on February 2 and concludes on March 3.
Holi is a festival of colors, considered a symbol of love, brotherhood, and joy. The month of Phalgun is considered a month of joy and celebration, so during this time, people generally adopt a virtuous lifestyle, practice restraint, and devote time to worship. Holashtak, which begins eight days before Holi, will begin on February 24, 2026, with Holika Dahan taking place on March 3.
Religiously, the month of Phalgun is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna. Mahashivratri, the biggest festival dedicated to Shiva worship, falls in Phalgun, while many traditions and celebrations related to the pastimes of Krishna and Radha are also celebrated during this month. Religious places like Vrindavan, Barsana, and Mathura witness special celebrations and the tradition of Phag songs during Phalgun. This month is also an opportunity for devotees to practice devotion and spiritual practice.
Many spiritual and social activities are held during Phalgun. Donating to charity during this month is considered a highly virtuous act. Donating food, clothes, and colors to the poor not only brings merit but also removes planetary afflictions. Service is also given special importance this month. Feeding the poor and serving Brahmins and saints, all of these acts, increase positivity and spiritual energy in life.
In addition, one should resolve to perform regular worship during the month of Phalgun. Abhishekam of Shivalinga, chanting Mahamrityunjaya, and worshipping Lord Krishna hold special significance during this month. Furthermore, practicing sattvic practices, avoiding non-vegetarian food, and practicing regular bathing, meditation, yoga, and spiritual practice are also considered beneficial.

In Phalgun, winter departs, and spring manifests in full bloom. This month also teaches us to let go of past negativity and prepare ourselves for new beginnings. Along with Mahashivratri, Holi, and Phalgun Purnima, this month commemorates the spring pastimes of Lord Krishna and Radha. This month is highly revered in the Vaishnav tradition.
