Homemade Hair Mask: With the arrival of the monsoon season, many people face a common complaint: increased hair fall. Seeing clumps of hair in your hands while bathing or stuck in your comb can naturally cause concern. Humidity, sweat, scalp moisture, pollution, and changes in hair care routines can exacerbate these issues during this season. Additionally, stress, lack of sleep, diet, and hormonal changes can also contribute to hair loss. Consequently, people often turn to home remedies alongside expensive commercial products.

While most people are familiar with the guava fruit, its leaves have also long been used in traditional hair care. A hair mask made by combining guava leaves with onion, curry leaves, aloe vera, and coconut oil can be a beneficial part of your scalp and hair care routine. However, it should not be considered a guaranteed cure for hair loss.
How to Make the Guava-Onion Hair Mask
For this homemade hair mask, you will need 20 guava leaves, about 50 curry leaves, one onion, one tablespoon of aloe vera gel, and one tablespoon of coconut oil. First, thoroughly wash the guava and curry leaves with clean water. Peel the onion and cut it into small pieces. Next, place the guava leaves, curry leaves, and onion in a blender and grind them into a fine paste. Once the mixture reaches a paste-like consistency, add the aloe vera gel and coconut oil, and mix well. Ensure the paste is not too runny; otherwise, it may be difficult to apply to the scalp.
How to Apply It to the Hair Roots?
Gently apply the prepared mixture to your hair roots and scalp. Leave it on for about 30 minutes to an hour. Afterward, wash your hair with a mild shampoo; if your hair is naturally dry, you may also use a conditioner after shampooing. It is advisable to perform a small patch test before using this mask for the first time. Apply a small amount behind your ear or on the skin of your hand to check for any adverse reactions. Do not apply it to the scalp if you experience burning, itching, or redness.
What are the benefits of onion?
Onions contain sulfur-based compounds. Limited research has linked onion juice to hair regrowth in cases of a specific type of patchy hair loss. However, there is insufficient strong evidence regarding the effectiveness of onion juice in preventing general hair loss. Therefore, it should be viewed as a home remedy rather than a medical treatment.
Guava and curry leaves
Guava leaves contain antioxidants and various plant-based bioactive compounds. Curry leaves also contain various nutrients and antioxidants. However, there is no strong clinical evidence proving that applying them to the scalp will definitely stop hair loss. Aloe vera can help soothe the scalp, while coconut oil can assist in retaining moisture and minimizing hair damage. This is why these ingredients are commonly used in home hair care routines.
What should you keep in mind?
Every individual's scalp has different needs. Onion can cause burning, itching, or redness in some people; those with sensitive skin should exercise extra caution. Avoid applying the mask near the eyes and rinse immediately with water if you experience intense burning. If you are experiencing sudden, excessive hair loss, bald patches, or prolonged hair shedding, it is better to consult a dermatologist rather than relying solely on home remedies. Hair loss can also be caused by nutritional deficiencies, stress, hormonal changes, or other factors.

How to care for hair during the rainy season?
Avoid leaving your hair wet for extended periods during the rainy season. If sweat and humidity make your scalp feel uncomfortable, keep your hair clean and avoid using excessive hair products. Additionally, including sufficient protein, vegetables, fruits, and other essential nutrients in your diet is crucial for overall hair health.
