On February 5, 2026, renowned actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Delhi's Tihar Jail in connection with a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. However, a few days later, the court granted him interim bail on the condition that he deposit a portion of the outstanding amount. Now, Rajpal Yadav has spoken candidly about this—the biggest controversy of his life.

He not only discussed the support he received from the industry and public opinion regarding the matter, but also revealed that his incarceration was not due to a lack of funds—specifically, the inability to pay the ₹5 crore—but rather due to an entirely different reason. Why, exactly, did Rajpal Yadav surrender? Let's find out in detail below:
'The Matter Was Far Bigger Than Just Repaying ₹5 Crore.'
Rajpal Yadav recently opened up about this past controversy during a conversation on Shubhankhar Mishra's podcast. When asked—given that he has acted in over 250 films—why people felt that repaying ₹5 crore should not have been a difficult task for him, Rajpal Yadav offered an immediate response:
The actor also claimed that, as a result of this controversy, he suffered a massive financial loss ranging between ₹17 crore and ₹22 crore. He stated, "₹12 crore had already been invested in the project, and eventually, it evolved into a ₹22 crore venture. Even if your worst enemy is involved in a project, you should still allow it to be released. Let the audience be the judge. In this industry, 100 films are produced; out of those, 80 fail, while only 20 succeed. This certainly does not imply that you have committed fraud against anyone."
Did the Industry Offer Support During These Difficult Times?
When Rajpal Yadav was going through this trying period, did his Bollywood peers stand by him? Responding to this question, the actor said, "Over the last 25 years—from my village all the way to Mumbai—there isn't a single person who hasn't stood by me. There isn't a single director or producer who hasn't called me back for work. If the industry hadn't been with me, how could I have done so many films?"
'I have complete faith in the justice system.'
Bringing the discussion about his difficult phase to a close, Rajpal Yadav stated, "I hold the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive in the highest regard. I have complete faith in our justice system. I did not start this battle, but it will be brought to an end because of me. There have been many misunderstandings; people ought to hear the full story."
It is worth noting that Rajpal Yadav currently appears in the recently released horror-comedy film 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2', which features Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The movie is performing splendidly at the box office.
