Shani Pradosh Vrat: Shani Pradosh Vrat will be observed on June 27; this day is considered highly auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva. It is believed that devotees who observe this fast with true faith and adherence to the rules see their sorrows and troubles diminish, and the adverse effects of Saturn-related afflictions are mitigated. This date is considered particularly favorable for those wishing to begin observing the Pradosh Vrat for the first time. According to the *Panchang* (Hindu almanac), this day marks the *Trayodashi Tithi* (13th day) of the waxing phase (*Shukla Paksha*) of the *Jyeshtha* month, making it an excellent occasion to start the fast.

When considering observing this fast, a common question arises: should one consume only fruits (*phalahar*), or is it permissible to have one full meal? Let us clarify this point.
Can grains be consumed during Pradosh Vrat?
Consuming grains is not strictly prohibited during Pradosh Vrat. However, the rule is to observe a fast throughout the day and consume food only in the evening—specifically during the *Pradosh Kaal*—after worshipping Lord Shiva. The meal consumed should be *Sattvic* (pure and light). If possible, observing the fast on a diet of only fruits (*phalahar*) throughout the day is considered more auspicious.
Dietary guidelines for Pradosh Vrat
If your health permits, observing the fast without consuming grains is considered more beneficial.
Scriptures describe a fast based on a fruit diet (*phalahari vrat*) as being especially meritorious.
Devotees observing the fruit-only fast should abstain from salt between sunrise and sunset. During this time, you may consume water, tea, coffee, fruits, or fresh juice.
After the evening worship, you may consume a *phalahari* meal containing salt—such as dishes made from *sabudana* (sago), *kuttu* (buckwheat flour), or *singhara* (water chestnut) flour.
If you resolve to have one full meal, consume a *Sattvic* meal in the evening after the worship, having fasted throughout the day.
The use of garlic and onion in food is strictly prohibited on this day. Observing the Pradosh Vrat in accordance with these rules is considered an excellent way to attain the grace of Lord Shiva.
