**What to Do Immediately Upon Waking?**

Sunlight triggers the release of cortisol in our bodies, a hormone that promotes alertness. Furthermore, it sets a "countdown timer" for the production of melatonin—the sleep hormone—later in the evening, thereby ensuring you fall asleep on time at night.
