'Dhurandhar' released on OTT, but why were cuts made despite the 'A' certificate? Fans are angry and questioning Netflix..

Ranveer Singh's blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar' is now streaming on Netflix, but its release has sparked outrage among fans. Many viewers allege that the film, which received an 'A' certificate, has been heavily censored in its OTT version. Dialogues have been muted, expletives have been cut, and approximately 10 minutes of footage have been removed. Fans are asking why there is censorship even on an 18+ platform.

'Dhurandhar' had its theatrical release on December 5, 2025. Directed by Aditya Dhar, this spy action thriller stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. The film's story is based on a secret operation led by Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan), the chief of India's Intelligence Bureau.

Censored on OTT!
In the film, Ranveer Singh plays the character of 'Hamza', who infiltrates the Karachi underworld to dismantle a terror network operating from Pakistan. The film is inspired by real-life events such as the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament attack. The theatrical version was 3 hours and 34 minutes long (214 minutes total) and received an 'A' certificate from the CBFC, due to strong violence and profanity. The film was a massive box office success, grossing approximately ₹1,344 crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films in India.

What Users Are Saying
After its release on Netflix on January 30, 2026, fans began complaining. Users on social media claim that the OTT version is only 3 hours and 25 minutes long, meaning about 9-10 minutes have been cut. Expletives in the dialogues have been muted, and some scenes have been trimmed. One user wrote on X, "Big धोखा (deception) from @NetflixIndia! Why are you censoring even an A-rated film?" There were no cuts in Animal or Kabir Singh,’ said one user. Another commented, ‘It’s not uncensored… there’s censorship even on OTT.’ Many asked, ‘Even on an 18+ platform, we’re getting this kind of treatment? Why are you taking away the raw vibe?’ Fans are saying that the raw energy they experienced in the theaters is not available at home.

The Complicated Issue of OTT Censorship
This incident has brought back into focus the long-standing debate in India regarding the regulation of OTT content. The CBFC's purview is limited to theatrical releases, while OTT platforms operate under ‘self-regulation’ and can modify content based on their own guidelines. Neither the filmmakers nor Netflix has yet issued an official statement on this controversy.
