Common causes of bad breath

- Poor oral hygiene

- Digestive problems

- Not eating for a long time

- Dry mouth

- Food stuck between teeth

- Smoking or tobacco consumption

- Gum disease or cavities

Easy home remedies to get rid of bad breath

1. Brush and floss regularly

It is very important to brush twice a day and floss at least once. Food particles and bacteria stuck in the teeth are the main causes of bad breath. Brushing not only freshens the breath but also takes care of overall oral hygiene.

2. Gargle with lukewarm salt water

Salt has natural antiseptic properties. Mixing a pinch of salt in a glass of lukewarm water and gargling kills harmful bacteria in the mouth, which reduces bad breath and also strengthens the gums.

3. Chew basil, mint, or cloves

The natural oils present in fresh basil and mint leaves eliminate odor-causing bacteria. At the same time, chewing cloves also freshens the mouth and protects from bacterial infections.

4. Consume lemon and honey

Drinking a glass of lukewarm water mixed with half a lemon and a teaspoon of honey on an empty stomach in the morning detoxifies the body and improves the digestive system. This remedy also gradually helps in eliminating bad breath from the root.

5. Drink an adequate amount of water

Drying of the mouth reduces saliva production, due to which bacteria grow rapidly, and a bad smell starts coming. It is important to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day so that the mouth remains moist and the mouth keeps getting cleaned through saliva.

6. Eat juicy fruits

Fruits like apple, orange, and pomegranate are rich in fiber which helps in cleaning the mouth. These fruits not only improve digestion but also provide freshness to the breath.

7. Include curd and buttermilk in the diet

The good bacteria (probiotics) present in curd and buttermilk help fight harmful bacteria in the mouth. This controls bad odor and also keeps the stomach healthy.
