Eclipses 2026: The new year will see 2 solar eclipses and 2 lunar eclipses; know the dates, times, and inauspicious periods..

Eclipses 2026 List: The year 2026 has begun, and it brings something special for astronomy enthusiasts. This year, there will be a total of four eclipses, two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses, but all four will not be equally visible in India. Only one lunar eclipse will be visible in India. The other three eclipses will either not be visible from our country or their effect will be so minimal that it will be difficult to observe them.

First Solar Eclipse of the Year
The first eclipse of the year will occur on February 17. This is a solar eclipse, known as an annular solar eclipse or 'Ring of Fire'. Approximately 96 percent of the sun will be covered during this eclipse, and it will last for about 2 minutes and 20 seconds. This eclipse will be visible in South Africa, southern Argentina, and Antarctica. It will not be visible in India. Therefore, the Sutak period (period of inauspiciousness) will not apply here.

First Lunar Eclipse of the Year

Following this, the first lunar eclipse of the year will occur on March 3, 2026, and it will be fully visible in India. This is the eclipse that we will be able to see directly. This lunar eclipse will last for approximately 58 minutes, and during this time the moon will appear red. People also call this a Blood Moon.

According to astronomy, this will be the last total lunar eclipse before 2029. The Sutak period of this eclipse will be valid in India, meaning it will have religious and traditional significance.

Second Solar Eclipse of the Year
The third eclipse will occur on July 29. This will also be a solar eclipse, but unfortunately, it will not be visible in India. To see it, one would have to be in parts of Africa, South America, and Antarctica. Since it will not be visible in India, its Sutak period will also not be applicable here.

Second Lunar Eclipse of the Year
The fourth and final eclipse of the year will occur on August 28. This is the second lunar eclipse, which will be visible in parts of North and South America, Europe, and Africa, but it will not be visible from India. Its Sutak period will also not be applicable in India. In total, there will be four eclipses in 2026, but only the total lunar eclipse on March 3rd will be visible in India.
