Fans are very angry with the performance of the Indian team these days. Not only the fans, BCCI is also unhappy with the performance of Team India. After losing the home Test series against New Zealand and then the Border Gavaskar Trophy on the Australia tour, the board issued 10 strict rules. There was also talk of giving a last chance to some senior players, but those players themselves came forward and refused to retire. After this, BCCI's displeasure with coach Gautam Gambhir also came to the fore. He was asked the reasons for the defeat in media reports. According to media reports, he has also been warned.
India now has to participate in a big tournament like the Champions Trophy and some people believe that Gambhir may see his way out due to poor performance in this tournament. However, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes that the Test tour of England will decide whether Gambhir will remain in the post of head coach or not. Gambhir was made the head coach of India after Rahul Dravid was ousted after the team's ICC T20 World Cup win last year. Gambhir's tenure is close to completing a year and Aakash Chopra believes that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should review his performance.
BCCI will be able to ask questions to Gambhir
He said on his YouTube channel, 'I think he will get another tour of England. I don't think BCCI will say anything to him till then. After the England tour, it will be a year since he took over the reins. Then BCCI will be able to tell him that you had to make changes in the team in a year or improve the team. BCCI will be able to ask him what and how did you work during this time, which players did you prepare and how much has the team's performance improved? All this can be reviewed.'
Serious consideration on moving on from Gambhir
Aakash believes that if India does not succeed in the upcoming Champions Trophy and then on the England tour, then BCCI can seriously consider moving on from Gambhir as the head coach. He said, 'However, it is very important to give at least one year's time to review someone's performance. You need 12 months. So I am feeling like the England tour, not the Champions Trophy. This can just be an important barometer or parameter on the basis of which Gautam Gambhir's performance can be reviewed. It will not be a bad thing. You review the performance of batsmen and bowlers, so do it for the coach as well.'
