Nowadays, many people are experiencing the problem of premature greying of hair. There can be several reasons for hair turning grey prematurely, including genetics, nutritional deficiencies, stress, and certain health-related issues. In such cases, people often resort to using hair colors or dyes to conceal their grey hair.

However, what the hair and scalp truly need is nourishment. In Ayurveda, ingredients like black sesame seeds, amla (Indian gooseberry), fenugreek, and bhringraj have long been used for hair care. You can use these natural ingredients to prepare a special hair oil at home, which helps nourish both the hair and the scalp. Read on to learn how to make it.
Homemade Oil for Grey Hair
Ingredients
Black sesame seeds – 3 teaspoons
Fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon
Nigella seeds (kalonji) – 3 teaspoons
Fresh curry leaves – 3 to 5
Cold-pressed black sesame oil – 200 ml
Amla powder – 1 teaspoon
Bhringraj powder – 1 teaspoon
Method
First, place the black sesame seeds, nigella seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves in a pan. Roast them lightly over a low flame. Once they begin to release an aroma, turn off the heat. Be careful not to let the ingredients burn.
Allow the roasted ingredients to cool down completely. Then, grind them in a mixer until they reach a coarse consistency; there is no need to grind them into a fine powder.
Next, pour 200 ml of black sesame oil into a clean glass container. Add one teaspoon each of amla powder and bhringraj powder to it.
Add the coarsely ground mixture of roasted seeds and curry leaves to the oil. Stir everything well so that the herbal blend is thoroughly incorporated into the oil.
Cover the container and let it sit for 24 hours. After this, strain the oil using a clean cloth or a sieve.
Pour the prepared oil into a clean, dry bottle. Store it away from moisture and direct sunlight.

How to apply this oil to your hair?
Apply the oil to your scalp a few hours before washing your hair, or at night before going to bed. Gently massage it in using your fingertips. Wash your hair the next day with a mild shampoo. You can use it 2–3 times a week. Please note: always perform a patch test before the first use. If you experience itching, burning, or an allergic reaction on your scalp, discontinue use.
