Make delicious apple murabba at home—it’s a perfect treat for Diwali; check out the full recipe..

You have surely enjoyed various types of *murabba* (fruit preserves), such as those made from *amla* (Indian gooseberry) or *shrifal* (quince/bael). Today, we are going to introduce you to a *murabba* that is not only visually appealing but also incredibly delicious—so good, in fact, that you’ll be hooked! Yes, we are talking about apple *murabba*. It is easy to prepare, requiring minimal time and effort, and it is both tasty and long-lasting. Let’s explore the special, traditional recipe for this *murabba*.

Sonapati Gupta, the owner of a well-known shop for pickles and *murabba* in the Ballia district—popularly known locally as "SP Gupta" and a resident of Apayal village—shares that his apple *murabba* is highly sought after. The preparation process is straightforward: the apples are first peeled using a knife or a peeler.

Apple *murabba* ready in two hours
Once peeled, the apples are cooked in a sugar syrup. The entire process takes just two hours. After peeling, the apples are pricked all over (to allow the syrup to penetrate). Meanwhile, a sugar syrup is prepared; once it reaches a honey-like consistency, a small amount of alum (*fitkari*) is added. When the syrup achieves the perfect honey-like texture, it is ready, and the apples are then added to it.

This *murabba* is sold to customers at a price of ₹240 per kilogram. It is crafted from whole apples, making it look as good as it tastes. It is also highly beneficial for digestive health. There is a high demand for this product from far and wide. The shop offers a wide variety of *murabbas* and pickles—a craft that the owner has mastered through extensive experience.

Multiple branches in the city
SP Gupta originally learned the art of making *murabbas* and pickles in depth while working at a company in Pratapgarh. Following this, he established his own shop and began producing them himself. The demand has grown to such an extent that several branches have now been opened across the city. In the Ballia district, this shop—specializing in *murabba* (fruit preserves) and pickles—operates from four locations. The oldest of these, established 38 years ago, is situated at the main square, right next to the Okdeganj police outpost.

Better than other sweets
One branch is located in Jagdishpur, another is right in front of the *Nagar Panchayat* (municipal council) office, and the third—and final—branch is situated within the District Magistrate (DM) office complex. It was noted that these *murabba* sweets, made from fruit, are in many ways superior to other types of confectionery. This Diwali, these *murabba* treats will not only offer a delightful sweetness to guests but will also be a healthier choice.
