Hartalika Teej puja Vidhi: Haritalika Teej is a festival symbolizing faith, love, and dedication in Hinduism, which is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day, women worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati with rituals. This festival is especially important for married women and unmarried girls. Married women observe this fast for the long life of their husbands, happiness, peace, and prosperity in married life, while unmarried girls fast with the wish of getting a suitable and desired life partner.

Haritalika Teej fast is considered to be one of the most difficult fasts, because in this, the fasting women have to fast without water for the entire 24 hours. On this day, after getting up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta, clean clothes are worn after taking a bath, and an idol of Gauri-Shankar is made from clay and worshipped. During the fast, the tradition of listening to the story, singing bhajans and kirtans, and night vigil is also performed. This festival is a unique example of women's power, penance, and devotion to God.

Haritalika Teej Vrat Date

This year, Haritalika Teej Vrat will be observed on 26 August 2025. Tritiya Tithi will start from 12:34 pm on 25 August and will end on 26 August at 1:54 pm. Udaya Tithi (the date at the time of sunrise) is recognized, so the fast will be observed on 26 August.

Haritalika Teej Vrat Puja Vidhi

Get up in the Brahma Muhurta in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean, neat clothes.

Clean the place of worship in the house and spread a red or yellow cloth on the chowki for worship.

Install the idol or picture of Shiva-Parvati and Ganesh ji on the chowki.

Make a clay idol of Gauri-Shankar and include it in the worship.

Women should do 16 Shringar and keep necessary items like incense, lamp, sandalwood, Akshat, flowers, fruits, betel leaf, betel nut, camphor, coconut, Belpatra, Shami Patra, etc. in the worship.

Fill the Kalash with water, place mango leaves and coconut on top, and install the Kalash.

Bath the Shiv family with Gangajal, then light incense sticks and perform Puja and Aarti.

Listen to the story of Haritalika Teej and do Bhajan-Kirtan and Jagran at night.

The next day, offer vermilion to Goddess Parvati and break the fast.

Hartalika Teej Vrat has a very special significance from a religious and spiritual point of view. This fast is especially observed by women in memory of the holy union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this day, women observe fast with full devotion, in which fasting is done throughout the day by giving up food and water. By doing Jagran at night, the story of Shiva-Parvati is heard, and they are duly worshipped. Suhaag items are offered to Goddess Parvati, and clothes and other worship materials are dedicated to Mahadev.

The importance of this fast is that unmarried girls observe this fast with the wish of getting a good groom, while married women observe it for the long life and unbroken good fortune of their husbands.
