This monsoon season increases the risk of many types of diseases. After the scorching heat of May-June, this time of rain is relaxing, but it also brings with it many types of diseases. Waterlogging increases during the rainy days, which helps in promoting the breeding of mosquitoes. This increases the risk of diseases like dengue and malaria.

According to the reports of institutions like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the ICMR, every year, millions of people in India fall prey to these diseases. But the good thing is that by adopting a little awareness and preventive measures, we can keep these diseases away from ourselves and our loved ones.
Risk of mosquito-borne diseases
According to the WHO report of the year 2023, more than 24 crore people suffer from malaria every year around the world, out of which more than 6 lakh die. Dengue cases have doubled in India in the last 5 years. ICMR report shows that stagnant water after rain becomes the most suitable breeding ground for mosquitoes, due to which the infection spreads rapidly.
Cases of mosquito-borne diseases increase in Delhi-NCR from July to October. Health experts say that all people should take some measures continuously to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
Dengue threat in Delhi-NCR
No recent data report has been shared regarding dengue in Delhi. If we look at the data till April 20, it is known that 118 cases of dengue were reported in the capital Delhi-NCR. At present, these cases are fewer than last year, when 130 cases were reported by this time in the year 2024. In the years 2023 and 2022, 47 and 74 dengue cases were reported, respectively.
Protect yourself from mosquitoes and the diseases caused by them.
Health experts say that stagnant and clean water is the most suitable breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes. Apart from this, mosquitoes can breed in plastic containers, air coolers, flower pots, tyres, and any empty items where water can collect. To prevent mosquitoes from breeding, keep changing the water in coolers and pots.
Do not allow water to collect anywhere around the houses. Spray medicines to repel mosquitoes. Apart from this, some measures can be taken to avoid mosquito-borne diseases.
Protect yourself from mosquitoes even inside your house
It is important to take measures to avoid mosquito bites even inside the house. For this, mosquito repellent coils, sprays, etc. can be used carefully. However, avoid going into the room for some time after using them. Using a mosquito net while sleeping at night is considered the best way.

Wear full-sleeved clothes
Mosquitoes usually bite on exposed skin. On the other hand, dengue mosquitoes bite more during the day. Therefore, to avoid dengue during these days, wear clothes that completely cover your hands and feet. This will reduce the chances of mosquito bites. To protect against mosquitoes, creams can also be used on the advice of a doctor.
