The Indian team is set to play a five-match Test series against England under the leadership of Shubman Gill. The countdown for this series has started and with this, both the teams will start the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). Before the series, former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik gave advice to the new Test captain Shubman Gill.

Karthik said - Gill is not yet fully aware of the responsibility.
Gill is going to lead the Indian team in the Test format for the first time, but Karthik believes that Gill has not yet fully realized this responsibility. In this series, the Indian team will go without veteran cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin who have said goodbye to the Test format. Karthik suggested to Gill that he needs to focus on his batting to get respect in the dressing room.
Karthik said on a podcast, that the first suggestion I want to give to Shubman Gill is that you should play your captaincy role only while fielding. Focus more on your batting. Gill has to score runs to get respect in the dressing room. His average as a batsman in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries is not something he would be proud of.

Gill has a chance to end 18 years of drought.
Gill has played 32 Tests for India but he has failed to play big innings regularly in SENA countries. India last won a Test series in England in 2007. Gill faces the challenge of repeating that achievement as a captain for the first time. Karthik said I don't think he had yet realized the importance of being a Test captain for India. He is going into the lion's den. Coming to England as a cricket nation is not easy. Gill's luck is a little better though because England's bowling is not that strong. This is the only positive aspect I see from India's point of view. England's batting will put pressure on India, but bowling is an area that England has to work on and this can be beneficial for India.
