South Africa's stand-in captain, Wiaan Mulder, had a good chance to break Brian Lara's record by scoring 400 runs against Zimbabwe. But when Mulder was on a personal score of 367 runs, he declared South Africa's first innings. The question that arose in the minds of cricket fans was why Mulder did this, when he had a good opportunity to make a record.

Mulder scored the second-fastest triple century in Test history.
Mulder has now revealed this himself. Mulder believes that West Indies' legendary batsman Lara deserves to retain this record. Mulder scored the second-fastest triple century in Test history on the second day of the second Test match against Zimbabwe. Mulder completed the triple century in 297 balls. Mulder remained unbeaten by scoring 367 runs with the help of 49 fours and four sixes in 334 balls, due to which South Africa declared their first innings at 626 runs for five wickets.
Mulder said at the end of the day's play, First of all, I felt that we had enough runs and we should bowl. Secondly, Brian Lara is a great player. It is appropriate for a person of that stature to maintain this record. If I get a chance to do it again, I will do the same. I spoke to Shukri Conrad, and he also felt the same. Brian Lara is a legend, and he deserves to maintain this record.
Lara's record is safe even after 21 years.
Lara is the only batsman in the world to have scored 400 runs in an innings of a Test match. He achieved this feat in a match against England in 2004, and till now no batsman has been able to break his record. Mulder has become the highest Test run scorer on foreign soil. He surpassed Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad, who scored 337 runs against West Indies in Barbados in 1958.

South Africa forced Zimbabwe to follow on
Talking about the match, South Africa declared their first innings and then bowled out Zimbabwe for 170 runs. In this way, South Africa gained a huge lead of 456 runs. However, South Africa forced Zimbabwe to follow on. Prenelan Subrayen took four wickets for South Africa. In the second innings, Zimbabwe scored 51 runs for one wicket till the end of the third day and is still trailing by 405 runs.
