Indian team all-rounder Shardul Thakur is eyeing a comeback in the Indian team after a brilliant performance in the current season of Ranji Trophy. Shardul has performed brilliantly in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final match being played against Haryana at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Shardul said that he has always been a contender for a place in the team. 33-year-old Shardul, who played an important role in India's 2021 tour of England, is in great form in the current domestic season.

Performing well in the Ranji Trophy
Shardul is Mumbai's fifth-highest run-scorer. He has scored 396 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of 44.00, including a century and three half-centuries. He has also made an impact with the ball and has taken 30 wickets at an average of 21.10. He took six wickets on Monday on the third day of the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Haryana, destroying the lower order of the opposing team and giving Mumbai a 14-run lead in the first innings.
Shardul, who played his 11th and last Test against South Africa at Centurion in December 2023, said, "When there is no place for you in the team, it is naturally frustrating, and when you are not playing, sitting idle at home, you think about it more. But once I get on the field, my full focus is on the match, be it club cricket, Ranji Trophy, IPL, or playing for India. Every cricket match is the same for me, no matter what level it is.
Expected to be included in the team for England tour
The new World Test Championship cycle for India will begin with the England tour in June-July, and Shardul hopes to return to the team for the tour. He said, "Yes. I think I am a contender. The next step is to take my place in the team and get selected. This is always the goal. Right now, I am playing Ranji Trophy. International cricket is the highest level we all strive for. It is always there in my mind, the motivation to play for the country is what keeps me going. That passion, that fire, never dies.
