According to the Vedic calendar, the Sakat Chauth (Sakat Chauth 2026) fast, also known as Tilkut Chauth, is observed every year on the fourth day of the dark fortnight of the Magha month. This year, the fast will be observed on Tuesday, January 6th. On this day, women observe a waterless fast for the longevity, good health, and bright future of their children.

How to break the fast:
On Sakat Chauth, the fast is broken after offering Arghya (water offering) to the Moon God at night and performing the puja with proper rituals. Therefore, in the evening, during the auspicious time, perform puja and worship Lord Ganesha and offer him Tilkut (a sweet made with sesame seeds and jaggery). Light a lamp in front of the deity and listen to the Sakat Chauth story. Chanting Lord Ganesha's mantras and offering 21 blades of Durva grass to Ganesha during the puja is considered very auspicious.
After offering Arghya to the moon at night, break your fast. During the breaking of the fast, first consume items made with sesame seeds and jaggery, and then you can consume fruits, milk, sweet potatoes, etc. Consume grains on the following day.
Chant these mantras:
1. Ganesha Beej Mantra - "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha"
2. "Om Gam Ganapataye Sarva Karya Siddhi Kuru Kuru Swaha"
3. Ganesha Gayatri Mantra - Om Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha | Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada ||
4. Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha |
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada ||

Keep these things in mind:
Those observing the Sakat Chauth fast should not wear black clothes. According to Hindu beliefs, wearing black clothes during any auspicious occasion is not considered good. While offering Arghya to the moon during the fast, ensure that the water does not splash on your feet. The Sakat Chauth fast is considered incomplete without Tilkut. Therefore, do not forget to offer Tilkut to Lord Ganesha on this day.
