Sawan 2026: Those observing the Sawan Monday fast consume *falahar* (fast-friendly foods) and *sattvic* (pure/wholesome) items. If you are bored of eating the usual *sabudana khichdi*, *kuttu* (buckwheat) *puri*, or potatoes during the fast, you can try something different and delicious this time.

*Falahari Tikki* (fast-friendly cutlets), which can be easily made at home, is an excellent option for the fast. It does not take much time to prepare, and the ingredients are readily available in the kitchen. You can prepare it as a breakfast dish or an evening snack during the Sawan Monday fast. Let’s look at the easy recipe for making *Falahari Tikki*.
**Ingredients for Falahari Tikki**
Boiled potatoes – 4
Sabudana (sago pearls) – ½ cup
Samak flour (barnyard millet flour) – 2 tablespoons
Green chilies – 1-2, finely chopped
Fresh coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons
Rock salt (*Sendha Namak*) – to taste
Roasted cumin powder – ½ teaspoon
Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
Oil or ghee – for cooking/frying
**Method for Making Falahari Tikki**
First, wash the *sabudana* thoroughly and soak it in water for a few hours. Once it softens, drain the excess water and set it aside for a while. Next, thoroughly mash the boiled potatoes in a large bowl. Add the soaked *sabudana*, *samak* flour, finely chopped green chilies, fresh coriander, rock salt, roasted cumin powder, and lemon juice to the mashed potatoes, and mix everything well.

Take small portions of the prepared mixture and shape them into round *tikkis* (cutlets) by gently pressing them with your palms. If the mixture feels too soft or sticky, you can add a little more *samak* flour. Now, place a *tawa* (griddle) on the stove and heat some ghee or oil (suitable for fasting) on it. Place the prepared *tikkis* on the *tawa* and cook them over medium heat until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Once cooked thoroughly, transfer them to a plate and serve piping hot with curd, coconut chutney, or *falahari* (fast-friendly) green chutney. When preparing this for a fast, ensure that all ingredients used comply with the rules of your fast.
